This is a fun activity that has students calculating the unit price for 8 items: flour, sugar, eggs, milk, butter, baking powder, chocolate chips, and cupcake liners. Each item will have two options. Students will need to determine which option is cheaper per unit. After solving the 8 problems, students will need to determine the total cost that they will be paying to bake cupcakes.
This is a perfect activity for math stations. I like to print the math station cards and tape them around my room. My students work in groups of 3-4 and move from problem to problem after a certain amount of time.
